Joan Osalza, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, in Old Saybrook, Connecticut. Born on July 7, 1937, in Glen Cove, New York, Joan's life was marked by love, service, and unwavering faith.
Joan attended the University of Connecticut, where she set the foundation for a lifetime of learning and community involvement. In 1972, she married the man she loved, Donald Osalza, embarking on a journey filled with adventure and companionship. Together, they enjoyed sailing various boats, vacationing in Cape Cod, and spending treasured moments with family on Sanibel Island.
Her commitment to service was evident in her work as a volunteer EMT in her hometown of East Haddam, where she also served as a member of the East Haddam Historical Society. Joan's passion for beautifying her community shone through her active participation in the garden club, where she helped plant flowers in local public areas. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she devotedly taught Sunday school at the First Church of Christ in East Haddam.
Joan shared her warmth and kindness through her involvement with the Red Hat Ladies and Meals on Wheels—a testament to her lifelong dedication to helping others.
Professionally, Joan served as an office manager at a dental practice in East Haddam, where her organizational skills and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Karen Prevedini, and husband Val; Son ,Barry and wife Theresa Osalza; grandchildren, John Prevedini and wife Hilary Goodnow, Kevin Osalza, Diane McKenna and husband Quinn; and her precious great-grandchildren, River Sage Osalza, Evangeline Theresa McKenna, and Nora Elizabeth McKenna. She will also be remembered fondly by her sister-in-law, Mary Kay Eshleman.
She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Florence (Gunther) Eshleman, her brother, Frank Eshleman, and her dear husband, Donald Osalza.
A memorial service celebrating Joans life will be held on Oct.18th at 10:00am at The First Church of Christ East Haddam, CT.
Joan's life was a testament to love, faith, and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
