Joan Katherine Perkins Obituary

Joan Katherine Perkins, 84, of Hebron, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 16, 2025. Born October 16, 1940, in Hartford, CT, she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. Mader, Jr. and Anna Mae (Roginka) Mader.

Known affectionately to many as Joanie, she grew up in Glastonbury and graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1958. In 1967, she moved to Hebron to the home she loved and took great pride in. She felt a deep connection to the town and was proud to call Hebron her home for more than five decades.

Over the years, she held various jobs, most notably working at Amica Insurance for 15 years until her retirement in 1996.

A devoted member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Hebron, Joan was deeply involved in the church community. She taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry multiple times, and was a proud member of the “Weekly Weeders,” a group dedicated to caring for the church gardens. She also gave her time generously to church fundraisers, most notably claiming the dessert table as her own at the monthly community dinners, where she could always be found sharing sweets and smiles.

Joan was also active in the broader community as a member of the Friends of Hebron, and the Sunshine Singers Hebron Women’s Club, providing joy and entertainment to local senior centers and community events.

Above all, Joan loved her home and found great joy in gardening and puttering around the yard, but nothing brought her more happiness than having her house filled with family for holidays and celebrations. Her warmth and love made those times especially meaningful.

She is survived by her children: Clifton L. Perkins III and his fiancée Stacy Mutchek, Sherry Perkins and her husband Rick Marks, and Shawn Perkins and his wife Kristina Perkins; her siblings Doris Ross, Nancy Scadden, and Robert Mader; her beloved grandchildren: Shawn, Melissa, Derek, Bryan, Jacqueline, Ashlee, Sophia, Tyler, Dylan, and Katelyn; three great-grandchildren: Aubree, Caleb & Claire; and many other extended family members and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.
