Joann Wallowitch, of Groton, and formerly of Waterford, passed away on May 17, 2026 at the Groton Regency where she had recently been residing. She was 87 years old. Joann was born in New London on January 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Walter and Mildred (Suroviak) Joskiewich. After high school, she worked briefly as a legal secretary. She raised her family in Salem, CT and was a communicant of St. Andrew Church in Colchester. Joann was also a volunteer at the Colchester Senior Center where she made many friendships and enjoyed participating in events there. Joann loved growing vegetables which she shared generously with family and friends alike. Known as Mom, Mama, Josie, Gramma, and Aunt Joann, she will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by all who knew her, especially her children Susan and her husband, Steven Peabody of Ledyard, Debra Wallowitch, and Linda Wallowitch of Hartford; four grandchildren; J’Naya, Dominic, Eva, Amaya; and extended family members and friends. A visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, beginning at 10:30 AM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester.
