John George Fedus Obituary

John George Fedus Jr., 82 passed away on October 10, 2024, at Autumn Lake Health Care at Bucks Hill in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was born on February 5, 1942, in Middletown, Connecticut, the son of John G. Fedus and Loretta Myjak Fedus. He graduated from Bacon Academy in Colchester, Connecticut in 1959; obtained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut, Storrs in 1964 and a M.B.A. from the University of Hartford in 1975. While a senior in college, he worked for the Dept. of Navy Underwater Sound Labs in New London, CT., and upon graduation served two years as a first lieutenant on the Nike Missile Site at Snelling A.F. Station, Minnesota. After completing his military service, he worked for IBM in New York City and Connecticut.

In the 1970's he moved to Massachusetts, was hired by E.F. HUTTON in Boston as an account executive specializing in commodities; achieved Chairmanship in sales in 1983 and was promoted to Vice President in 1984. He later worked for Prudential Backe Securities in Burlington as a Vice President specializing in future markets. He and his wife, Kathleen settled in Winchester, Massachusetts and started DIAL-A-PIZZA, one of the first pizza delivery businesses in the Somerville Cambridge area.

In his later years, John suffered a stroke and then a traumatic brain injury in an accident which resulted in many years of rehabilitation and long-term care. He was a strong supporter of higher education and school sports. He encouraged his children to pursue excellence in their studies, on the athletic fields, and in their chosen careers. He was proud of their successes in the fields of medicine, physics, artificial intelligence, and business entrepreneurship.

Even though illness cut short his professional career, he continued to have a strong work ethic and maintained as much independence as possible. While in the nursing home, he even went to the business office with his walker and asked them to give him a job. John never complained about the curve balls life sent him and always tried to help those in need. His optimism and courage came from his strong faith and belief in God's love. His bible was his constant companion.

He is survived by his daughter Linda, her husband and their five children in Massachusetts, his son William (Liam) and daughter, Kathryn in California, and their mother, Kathleen. He also has a brother, Don in New York and a sister, Lorraine in Florida, as well as extended family and friends throughout the country. He is predeceased by his first wife, Susan, their son, Bryan, and his twin sisters Elizabeth and Dorothy.
