John Frederick Mutch, age 87, of Salem, passed away at home on March 12, 2021. Born in Willoughby, OH on August 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Freeman and Emma (Marquard) Mutch. John was a proud veteran having served with the US Navy during the Korean War Era. After active duty, he went on to work for Electric Boat in Groton as a first class machinist, retiring in 1995. In his free time, John enjoyed walking, especially along the boardwalk in Niantic. He loved going to the beach or boating and fishing with his son and family. He leaves two children, Keith and his wife, Diane Mutch of Oakdale, CT, Darleen Mutch Medeiros of Vero Beach, FL; 10 grandchildren, Cole, Elizabeth, Journey, Keith J. Mutch and wife Melissa Mutch, and Keith J. Mutch Jr, Taylor, Paige and Brynne Medeiros, Heather and Steve Bartlett; his great grandchild Courtney Roy; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Valarie Mutch Carreiro; a brother, Gene Mutch and two sisters, Barbara and Shirley Mutch. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 20th utilizing face covering and social distancing, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, beginning with a calling hour form 9 – 10 am, followed by a funeral home chapel service at 10 am. Burial will be held in Linwood Cemetery in Colchester with full military honors. Donations in his memory may be made to the Michael J.
