Joseph W. Long, 88, of Salem, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born May 10, 1936, in Oneonta, New York; he was the son of the late Joseph G. Long and Mary (Forsythe) Long. For 30 years Joseph worked at General Dynamics as a purchasing manager until his retirement in 1996. He was a hard-working family man who embraced and cherished being a husband, father and grandfather.  He was very proud of the home he had so enjoyed taking care of for 58 years. He loved baseball and was an insightful scholar of the game. He was also a big fan of UConn women’s basketball.  He will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Kathryn (Connelly) Long; his daughters and their husbands, Jennifer and William Hull, Kathleen and William Pitruzzello, Margaret and David Candelori and Patricia and Alexander MacDonald; grandchildren Alexander Hull, Bethany Hull, Nathan Pitruzzello, Mary  Pitruzzello, Claire Candelori and Ann-Katherine Candelori, and numerous other extended family and friends. Services will be private.
