Judith A. (Banks) Rogers—devoted wife, adored mother and kindhearted soul—passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, surrounded by loving family at Chestelm Health & Rehab in Moodus. She was 82.
Born on March 8, 1942, Judy was a beloved daughter of the late Abraham and Rose (Gaylord) Banks. She was raised in Newington and graduated from Newington High School. Judy served as a typist from the Connecticut Dept. of Labor for 15 years, during which she met the love of her life—William “Bill” Rogers. After their marriage in 1971, Bill and Judy started their new life in Colchester, where they welcomed and raised their beautiful, 9-pound, 7-ounce baby girl—Lisa—who brought so much joy to their entire family. Judy would later work as a food product demonstrator for various supermarkets where she built friendly and engaging relationships with store managers and customers alike for over 25 years.
Judy was a strong family woman completely devoted to those she loved. She endeared many to her outgoing nature and could entertain anyone at a moment’s notice. Judy had a wonderful sense of humor and found the lighter side of any situation. She was a keen shopper and loved looking for a great deal. She loved being a part of her Colchester community and participated in the Lebanon choir, Colchester choir and orchestra for many years singing as a soprano.
She found great peace within nature and was known to have abundant amounts of love for every animal, with a special connection to dogs and cats. Whether traveling with her family, going out with friends for lunch, feeding seagulls by the ocean, or enjoying a night in with Chinese food and her favorite soap operas, Judy embraced her life with an enthusiastic vigor that kept her eager for the next adventure.
Judy’s heart and mind were filled with deep love and adoration for her closest family and friends. Though she navigated life on her own terms, it never affected her desire to show a steadfast loyalty to those who needed her help or guidance. A unique and beloved personality, Judy will forever be remembered and always missed by those who loved her.
Judy is survived by her cherished daughter, Lisa Beth Rogers of East Haddam; her special friend and companion, Lewis R. Epstein; her cousins, Gregory Banks of Simsbury and Bruce Banks; and her beloved nieces and nephews, Dawn Rogers Cotner of Preston, Sarah Rogers Shetland of Coventry, Allison Rogers Daniels of Colchester, Jason Rogers of East Haddam, and Adam Rogers of Colchester. Judy is also remembered by over 10 grandnieces and grandnephews whom she loved to watch grow in their lives. In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her loving husband of over 35 years, Bill Rogers.
Judy’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude for her wonderful in-home caregivers, Kathy, Clarissa, Maria, Trisha, and Linda; the amazing staff at Chestelm Health & Rehab; and the Middlesex Hospice team for all their care and compassion.
