Kathleen "Kathie" (Elliott) McNally
March 14, 1951 ~ October 4, 2023 (age 72) 72 Years Old
Kathleen “Kathie” Elliott McNally, 72, of Marlborough, CT and New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. Born March 14, 1951 in Buffalo, NY; she was the daughter of the late John M and Mary T. (Taylor) Elliott. Kathie grew up in Delmar, NY and was a graduate of the Marylrose Academy in Albany NY. She later went on to achieve her bachelor’s degree from Nazareth College of Rochester, NY where she met her future husband Thomas McNally on Tom’s first day of college. Kathie ultimately obtained her master’s degree in teaching from Albany State. Kathie taught 5th grade at St. Thomas School in Delmar, NY, and later went on to tutor English as a Second Language (ESL) in the Glastonbury school system. Her final position was at East Hartford High School where she taught (ESL) for 15 years. Kathie was a woman of considerable faith, and attended St. John Fisher Church in Marlborough, and was a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea in New Smyrna Beach, FL. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and playing tennis, spending summer vacations with her extended family at Hanford Bay on Lake Erie or Lake Terramuggus, visiting the beach and hunting for the best bargain at TJ Maxx. She enjoyed playing games with family and friends and always had a smile on her face despite her illness. Her greatest joy in life, however, was her family and friends whom she loved more than anything else in the world. She embraced being a grandmother, “Nonnie”, and loved every moment she spent with her grandchildren. She will be forever loved and remembered by her husband of 49 years Tom McNally; children Ryan and wife Maureen McNally of Coventry, Laura Cowell of Amston, Patrick and wife Tracy McNally of Marlborough; grandchildren Megan, Gavin, Savannah, and Kenna McNally and Breena, Bailey and Bevin Cowell; sister Marilyn Elliott Downing and husband Terry Downing of Williamsville, NY; and numerous other extended family and friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 4 to 6 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT 06415, followed by a 6 PM chapel service at the funeral home. Burial will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial donation in honor of Kathie to The Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA) www.curefa.org. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the amazing, caring staff of “South 7” at Middlesex Hospital.
