Kimberly Perkowski Obituary

Kimberly I. Perkowski, age 47, passed away after a brief battle with cancer on April 5, 2024, with her family by her side. She was born in Norwich, CT on May 16, 1976, to Henry and Judy (Sanborn) Perkowski Jr. Kim grew up in Yantic, CT and was a 1994 graduate of Norwich Free Academy. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1998 from Eastern Connecticut State University in sports and leisure management.

After graduating, always having a spirit for adventure, Kim moved to Maine to live in a cottage on Sebago Lake with a friend. While their time in the cottage was short, Kim remained in Maine living in Windham, Lewiston, and the Casco Bay area, finding work as a YMCA lifeguard, day care worker, and medical office assistant. It was in Maine that she started her training to become an EMT and volunteered for the Freeport Maine Fire Rescue.

Upon returning to CT her caring, compassionate nature and desire to help others led her to various jobs in the medical field. For the last 9 years, she found joy in working as the night shift unit secretary at the Middlesex Hospital Emergency Department where she had the honor of working with an amazing group of coworkers whom she considered friends and family.

Raised in a family of first responders (fire, EMS, and medical) she was called to serve her community. Kim was an 18-year member of the Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Company as an EMT. A position that she loved. She recently received a CPR chain of survival ribbon in October for a CPR save along with receiving EMT of the year for 2023.

Kim loved to travel and enjoyed exploring new places whether it was a day trip, weekend getaway or an excursion overseas. She especially loved to plan trips with her travel buddy Dianne. One year ago, she crossed another thing off her bucket list when her and Dianne traveled to Australia and New Zealand and climbed to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. She liked to attend plays, musicals, and comedy shows. Kim loved children and adored spending time with her friends Courtney and Nick Poirier and their children Grace and Logan whom she called her niece and nephew. Kim will be remembered for her warm personality, smile, humor, and generosity.

Kim is survived by her father Henry, sister Jodi Savage and brother-in-law John Savage of Voluntown, CT. Her Aunt and Uncle Cindy and Mark Carchidi Sr. of Lebanon, CT. Aunt Susan Sanborn of Norwich CT and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother Judy, maternal grandparents Amzi and Frances Sanborn, paternal grandparents Henry and Irene Perkowski Sr., and Uncle Edward Sanborn.
