Larry George Nichols, age 79, passed away unexpectedly into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, August, 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 7, 1945 in Waterbury, CT, a son of the late Burton George and Rachael (Boisvert) Nichols. Larry attended Woodbury Schools. On April 7, 1979, he married Margaret “Peggy” Miller in Columbia, CT--a blessed union of 45 years. A mechanic by trade, Larry could tackle any job thrown his way. He and Peggy would go on to take over C.S. Miller Yacht Engine Service in Old Saybrook, Peggy’s father’s business, until their retirement.
Larry was a man's man. He loved to work with his hands, putter around the house, garage and yard and could often be found outside, splitting wood, helping out the neighbors or tending to the lawn. Larry, although quiet at times, loved time spent with family, and was known for his affectionate hugs. He most enjoyed the years he was able to spend with Peggy.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; daughter, Bonney (Purinton) O’ Brien; grandchildren, Alix O’Brien and Jenna O’Brien; sisters, Arlene (Michael) Quattro and Theresa (Richard) Cleaver; sister-in-law, Catherine Batson as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Harry B. Nichols; his sons, Vincent Nichols and Daniel Purinton; and his brother-in-law, Timothy Batson.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, August 30th, 2024, from 4-6PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT. A prayer service will follow visitation at 6PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or online.
Larry’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Hartford Hospital for the care and compassion shown. You made a very difficult time, a little bit easier.
