Leonard Manuel Ventura, Sr. 93, of Amston, and formerly of Old Saybrook, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 19, 2021. Born April 4, 1928 in New Bedford, Massachusetts; he was a son of the late Manuel R. Ventura and Mary A. (Gomes) Ventura. Leonard honorably served our nation during World War II by enlisting in the United States Army. In 1947 he married his wife June (Sinkiewicz) Ventura, they shared 65 years of marriage until she predeceased him on January 29, 2013. Leonard worked for several years as a crane operator for the Dunbars, Stone and Webster and New England Peabody on numerous construction projects throughout Connecticut and was a proud member of the IUOE (International Union Operating Engineers) Local 478 for 64 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, completing jig saw puzzles, or watching his favorite western movies. He is survived by his daughter Lynn M. Dziurgot, son Lane M. Ventura, and daughter-in-law Kathleen Ventura; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; and many other numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he is predeceased by his sons Leonard Jr., Lawrence M., and Mark Ventura; his brother and sister Richard M. Ventura and Dorothy (V.) Heckman. Care of private arrangements have been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
