Obituary

Leslie (Les) Henry Hamilton, 88, of Mansfield Center passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Douglas Manor in Windham, CT. Born March 8, 1935 in Norwich, CT; he was the son of the late Kenneth and Hazel (Booth) Hamilton. After graduating from Norwich Free Academy in 1953, Les enlisted in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict in 1954. While serving in the Navy he became pen pals with Joan Scott of Orange, MA and soon began dating. After being honorably discharged in 1957, Les and Joan married in 1958 and settled in Poquetanuck Cove, CT and started their family. They soon relocated to VA and subsequently moved to TN. In 1975 he and Joan moved to Amston CT and joined St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Hebron. Les spent over 50 years working in sales, at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Ideal Tire of Willimantic and Import Tire of Glastonbury, CT. He was active in the St. Peter’s Church community and enjoyed spending time at their home in Boothbay Harbor, Maine, fishing and golfing. He loved music and sang and played the guitar in a folk group, St. Peters Folks. His greatest joy in life came from his family, whom he loved more than anything. He eagerly looked forward to visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were a source of great pride in his life. He is survived by his wife Joan; children Melissa Turner and husband Lawrence, Christopher Hamilton, Kathleen Hamilton and partner Steve Prevost; grandchildren Alexandra Driscoll and husband Benjamin, Aaron Gallant and partner Phoebe Lucas and Chloe Gallant, great grandson Jack Driscoll, and soon-to-be new great grandson expected in October.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date to be announced. The future memorial mass will take place at St. Peter’s Church, 30 Church St, Hebron, CT. He will ultimately be laid to rest in the St. Peter’s memorial Garden.
