Leslie M. Lisle, 91, of Woodstock, passed away on the early morning of Sunday, April 13, 2025, at his home. Born March 4, 1934, in Columbus, Ohio; he was the son of the late Leslie M. Lisle, Jr. and Aldine B. (Darnell) Lisle. Leslie was a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Florida State University. As a young man, Mr. Lisle taught English in Marseille, France, for a year and then returned to the U.S. to teach French for several years in a Norfolk, Virgina public high school. He subsequently joined the U.S. Foreign Service and worked in numerous American embassies in Africa and in the Middle East before retiring in 1986. After retirement he played the ‘cello in different community orchestras, studied Latin, ran road races/marathons, learned to drive a motorcycle and sang in choirs both at Church and with his Sarasota friends. He had many retirement adventures with his wife, Patricia, living in multiple different States, in Switzerland and spending the last few winters in their home in Sun Outdoors Sarasota, in Florida. He spoke French well, keeping his language skills active with his Wednesday French Group in Mansfield CT where he could always be counted on to have a handy French song. Leslie had learned Arabic as part of his work abroad. Notable memberships and achievements throughout his life include belonging to the scholastic honorary Society - Phi Kappa Phi, the music honorary society - Pi Kappa Lambda, the French honorary society - Pi Delta Phi and the Latin honorary society - Eta Sigma Phi and also the Appalachian Trail Club. Leslie is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Corey-Lisle; and their sons Seth Lisle (Anna) and Elias Lisle (Marissa); his ex-wife Martha Lisle and their three children Lucie Austin (Ken), Karen Lisle and John Lisle (Carrie); his stepchildren Kirsten Bellisle, Trevor (Trista) Albert, Aaron Albert (Amy) and his sister Beth Lisle Turner (John). He was the much-loved Peepaw for grandchildren Skyler, James, Teagan, Taylor, and Everett, and Benjamin, Anna, Seamus and Ella. A memorial service will be held on May 31st at 2pm at the Unitarian Universalist Society East, in Manchester CT.
