Lucille E. (Hollister) Hewes, of Colchester, passed away on December 8, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital after a debilitating illness. She was 76 years old. Lucille was born in Hartford on April 11, 1947, a daughter of the late Calvin and Anna (Raviola) Hollister. She grew up in South Glastonbury and graduated from Glastonbury High School with the class of 1965. Lucille married her beloved husband, Jack on December 27, 1974. The couple met while participating in Fife and Drum Corps., which they both enjoyed together for many years. They lived for a time in Windsor and later moved to Colchester in the early 1980’s where they resided until recently. Jack predeceased her last month, on November 17th. Lucille was a proud homemaker who loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She was a former member of the Glastonbury Grange. A favorite pastime of Lucille’s was studying genealogy and as a member of the CT Genealogy Society, she traveled about New England and New York exploring documents of interest. She was also a talented crafter of handmade knitted, crochet, and sewed items which she generously gifted to family and friends. Her loss will be felt by all who knew her, especially her children and their spouses, Scott (Denise) Stedman, Bruce (Diane) Hewes, Lewis Hewes, Joshua Hewes; her caregiver, Bonnie Stratton; 4 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Freeland. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17th from 1 - 3 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 18th at 11 AM, at the Linwood Cemetery, Linwood Ave., (off Rte. 16), Colchester.
