Lyann Starkweather passed away at her home in Colchester, CT on May 13, 2023 at the age of 73. A native New Yorker with family roots in Colchester, Lyann was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 2, 1949, daughter of the late Donald and Esther (Nelkin) Starkweather. At the time of her passing, Lyann was actively employed as a coordinator at Citigroup’s Center for Culture Art and Archives Collections in Manhattan, a position that she enjoyed immensely. A life-long supporter of the arts and city culture, Lyann enjoyed many years of attending Broadway and off-Broadway plays, dance company performances, art galleries, museums and countless restaurants in the city. She was prolific in crocheting, especially afghan blankets, and put her talents to use as a long-time participant in Citi Volunteers by donating many handmade pieces to patients in palliative care. Quiet, but astute and witty, Lyann was also a wordsmith and devotee of Scrabble and NY Times word puzzles.
Lyann leaves a sister, Caryl Estes (and Sonny King) of Maine; a brother, Stephen Starkweather (and wife Joan) of New Jersey; nieces, Christine Burton (and James Moffa) of Connecticut, Karyn Estes-Lewis (and husband Ryan) of Maine and Stacy Gradaille of Florida; nephews, John Estes (and wife Susan) of New York and Scott Starkweather of Florida; many beloved cousins, extended family members and friends, especially her cousin Lynda Verrill (and husband Richard) of Colchester. A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery, Linwood Avenue in Colchester, CT.
