Mara Germaine Dumond 52, of Columbia, CT passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Hartford Hospital. Born March 20, 1972, in Manchester, CT; she is the daughter of Daniel and Donna Uriano. She married her husband, Steven Dumond on August 23, 1997. They originally lived in Colchester until they resettled in Columbia in 2002. For years Mara worked as a science teacher starting with the Hartford school district, she also held a deep passion for math which she instilled in her students. Mara was a 1994 graduate of Central Connecticut State University earning her Bachelor’s degree and a 2002 graduate from Saint Joseph University where she earned her master’s degree in education. Mara continued her education graduating from UConn with her Sixth-Year (092) in 2008 and began working for Connecticut Regional Education Council (CREC) and ultimately moving on to work for both the Windham and New London school districts as an Instructional coach. In her spare time, she loved to be on the water, spending numerous summer days and nights on her boat or as she called it her “Happy Place”.  Mara had a passion for baking, and she always looked forward to Christmas and spending time with her mother making cookies for family and friends. Mara also spent time on her many arts and crafts projects making gifts for those that she held close to her heart or snuggled up on the couch surrounded by her beloved rottweilers. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Steven Dumond; her parents Daniel and Donna Uriano, her brothers Chris Uriano and Dan Uriano and wife Katie; brother-in-law Ron Dumond and wife Sylvia-Ann Dumond; nieces and nephews Chelsey Dumond Ewers and husband Ian, Jonathan Dumond, goddaughter Isabella Uriano; Olivia Uriano; Jackson and Aidan Uriano; great niece Ava Ewers and numerous other extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her sister-in-law Angela Uriano, her mother-in-law and father-in-law John and Elsie Dumond and nephew Michael Dumond. Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 6 to 8 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT; a funeral mass will take place the following day at 10 AM directly at  St. Francis of Assisi Church 67 West Town Street, Lebanon, CT. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to the CT Humane Society or to the American Breast Cancer foundation to continue Mara’s support to breast cancer awareness.
