Mariette Francoise (Emond) Dorsey, 78, of Colchester, passed away peacefully at her home on February 28, 2024, surrounded by her family, after a brief battle with cancer. Born August 10, 1945 in Saint Joseph de Sorel, PQ, Canada, to William and Marie-Ange (Valois) Emond. She moved to the United States in 1951 and was raised by her aunt & uncle in West Springfield, MA where she attended Catholic school. She spent the academic year in the states and her summers with her mother, brothers, and sisters in Canada. After graduating Cathedral High School in 1963, she attended business school and worked for Household Finance until 1969. She became a Naturalized U.S. Citizen in 1975.
Mariette married her love, the late Terrance Dorsey, on July 27, 1968 and moved to Manchester, CT. They eventually settled in Windsor where they raised their family. She was a caring mother and looked after her growing family as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. In 2010, she and Terry moved to Colchester to be closer to family and to enjoy their retirement life. In 2021, she mourned the loss of her beloved Terry. It is with both joy and sadness that we celebrate their reunion in heaven. Mariette will be remembered as a loving, opinionated, and strong-willed mother and grandmother. Mariette was a devoted Boston sports fan and could be found watching the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots and especially her favorite quarterback Tom Brady. She also looked forward to playing Saturday night cards with close friends, the Arsenault’s.
She is survived by her children, David Dorsey and his wife Deborah of Portland, CT; Deborah Grottole and her husband John of Colchester, CT; Danielle ReBant and her husband Thomas of Raleigh, NC; and Derrick Dorsey of Colchester, CT; her brother Gaston Emond of Sorel, PQ; her sisters Claudette Gagon, Mirielle Charbonneau and Francine Emond of Sorel, PQ; her grandchildren Rebecca Dorsey, Zachary Grottole, Jenna O'Donal and her husband Sean, Andrew Dorsey, Benjamin Grottole, Joshua Dorsey and Julia Grottole; great-granddaughters Paige, Sierra and Sophie and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brothers Real, Rejean, Wildor and Marcel Emond and sister Hughette Lamothe. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Avenue, Colchester, CT. A private burial will be held the following day.
