Marilyn Godek Obituary

Marilyn June (Cote) Godek, wife of the late George Godek, and longtime resident of Columbia, CT, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, at the age of 85. Marilyn's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her career, and her passions. Born on June 18, 1937, in New Britain, Marilyn was the daughter of the late Albert and Grace (Bodley) Cote. She grew up in New Britain and graduated from New Britain High School. After graduation, Marilyn began a career that spanned several decades and included positions at Travelers, Sumner & Sumner Insurance, Willimantic Savings and Loan, and St. Joseph Living Center. She proudly served as a Reach to Recovery volunteer. Marilyn was an avid reader and a dedicated movie buff, amassing an impressive collection of books and DVDs over the years. She enjoyed the thrill of shopping for yet another pocketbook. In addition to her hobbies, Marilyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to watch the bluebirds, deer, and wild turkeys that frequented her backyard. She cherished the time she spent with her group of close friends and with her family, particularly during the holidays when they would gather for large, multigenerational celebrations. She will be remembered for her friendly personality, her enthusiastic encouragement, and her sage advice to "do good things for you." She is survived by her children Lisa (Romano) Schroder and husband Mark, Jim Romano and wife Julie, and Gary Godek and wife Kim; grandchildren Krista (Schroder) Putnam, Colton Schroder, Troy Romano, Carlie Romano, and Elle Romano; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marie and Richard Libassi; and nieces, nephews, many cousins, and friends. Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, her husband George Godek, her former husband Patrick Romano, and her brother Albert Cote Jr. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of The Hearth at Glastonbury as well as her VITAS hospice team for their compassionate care and support.
