Marlis Jacobowitz, of Uncasville, CT, passed away on July 16, 2025.  She was 95 years old.  Marlis was born on October 13, 1929 in Frankfort, Germany, a daughter of the late Frederick and Ilse (Kikkerman) Gehrcke.  She emigrated to America and attended school at Connecticut College where she earned a B.A. in Early Childhood Education - Cum Laude.  Following college, Marlis was a teacher for many years and a lifelong artist. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be remembered with love by all who knew her, especially her children, Michael, Bernard, Lawrence, and Jesse Cohen, and Deborah Hyland, ; grandchildren, Melissa Rice Resendiz, Derrick Rice, Samuel J. Cohen and Mana Cohen; and many extended family members and friends. Marlis was predeceased by her husband, Edward Jacobowitz, her brothers, Claus Gehrcke, and Frederich (Fritz) Gehrcke, her daughter, Susan Rice, and her son, Samuel E. Cohen. A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 22nd at 11 am at the Jewish Aid Cemetery on Gillettes Lane in Colchester, CT.  The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements.
