Mary Virginia (Grasso) Blancato

Mary V. Blancato, age 89, of Amston, passed away on Thursday, October 1st at Harrington Court in Colchester. Born in Bronx, NY on June 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Sebastiano & Lucia (Amenta) Grasso. She was the beloved wife and partner of Joseph Blancato. The couple made their home and raised their daughters, Marie and Joan in Waterbury, CT. Mary most enjoyed spending quality time with her family; she cherished her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Known to be loving and kind; she worked in the kitchen of RHAM High School and was affectionately known as Grandma to the students. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son in law, Joan & Charles Pethigal of Hebron; her son in law, Donald David of Colchester; her grandchildren, Katherine (Adam) Gower, Susan (Michael) Hannoush, Jeffrey (Lisa) Pethigal and James Pethigal; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Maggie, Luke, Hailey, Blair and Scarlett; her sister, Sophia Armetta; and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to her beloved husband, Mary was predeceased by her daughter, Marie David; her sisters, Jessie Gariolo and Lucy Casselano; and her brother, James Grasso. On Wednesday, October 7th at 10:30am, a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Church of the Holy Family, 185 Church St. Amston, CT. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, 2324 East Main St. Waterbury, CT.  In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to St Jude Foundation or a charity of your choice.
