Mary G. Ventres

Mary G. Ventres, 93, of East Haddam, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT. Born April 11, 1930, in Willimantic, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Susan (Miner) Gray. In 1962 she married her husband, the late William Edward Ventres, they shared nearly 50 years of marriage together until he predeceased her in 2012. Mary was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church in Hebron and was a member of the East Haddam Community Lions Club. She is survived by her children Harold Ventres of East Haddam, and Pam and husband Jim Laite of Lancaster, MA; grandchildren Corey Laite and wife Kelsey, William Ventres, Laura Laite and Andrew Ventres; and numerous other extended family and friends — all who she treasured. In addition to her parents and spouse, she is predeceased by her brother Lloyd Gray and sister Dorothy KirKham. Mary had several office administrator jobs throughout her lifetime, but her greatest joy and legacy is her family. She grew up in Hebron in the Gray homestead next to the Town green, and often recounted the special times she shared with her adored parents, brother and sister. A devoted wife, she and her best friend Billy built a beautiful life and home together overlooking Bashan Lake where they raised their family. Mary’s love and commitment to her children and grandchildren was unwavering — she truly cherished each of them, and was their steadfast advocate supporting them in all of their life’s journeys. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 5 to 6:30 PM with a funeral home  chapel service at 6:30 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester.
