MaryAnn Hayman, 83, lifelong resident of Lebanon, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on March 12, 2024.
Born in Norwich on August 26, 1940, MaryAnn was the beloved daughter of the late John and Martha (Blattler) Skulchuk. She was a graduate of Lyman Memorial High School and spent many of her working years serving as a housekeeper assisting many families with convalescent homecare. With her soft-spoken, hardworking nature, MaryAnn worked long hours to ensure the very best care and attention were given to her clientele. She had an unrelenting, diligent drive to work and keep busy—even serving in the lunchroom at Bozrah Public Schools well into her 70s.
Above all, MaryAnn was a devoted and thoughtful mother for her home and family. She took great pride in her motherly role and sought to instill in her children an appreciation for the world around them. MaryAnn found an abundance of peace in nature—watching the hummingbirds zip around playfully, camping at Witch Meadow and New Hampshire, and tending to her beautiful garden, especially her favorite lantanas. She was certainly happiest when spending time with her family and creating memories with them, and loved to watch them enjoy her renowned cooking—notably her famous stuffed cabbage!
MaryAnn will always be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, and her willingness to work hard to make someone else’s day a little bit better. She will always be remembered and loved and forever missed by those who cared deeply for her.
MaryAnn is survived by her two children, son John Hayman and his wife, Kim, and daughter Sue-Ann Lyon and her husband, John; her beautiful grandchildren, Heather Lyon-Miles and her husband, Ryan, Nate Lyon and his wife, Amber, Hunter Hayman; two cherished great-grandchildren, Levi and Nora; and her good friend and “sister,” Alice DeNisco.
Private services will be celebrated for MaryAnn by her family at a later date. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Paws Cat Shelter, 240A Route 171, Woodstock, CT 06281.
