Obituary

Matthew Desautels, of Colchester, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 25, 2022.  He was 36 years old.  Born in Norwich on July 16, 1985, he was a son of Peter and Lori Desautels, with whom he made his home.  Growing up in Colchester, Matt attended school there and attended Norwich Tech and graduated from Bacon Academy.  Beginning from a very young age, Matt was a sports enthusiast, playing little league baseball, youth basketball, and then graduating in later years to enjoy hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and ATV riding.  Matt was a skilled carpenter by trade, building homes for many years with Lenkiewicz Construction.  He was also a handyman who enjoyed tinkering, fixing things, or working on cars in his garage.  Aside from his many hobbies, Matt spent some of his time volunteering at the Historical Society and a rescue farm in Salem.  He had many friends and was a thoughtful and helpful neighbor.  Matt will be remembered fondly as a generous man who would always lend a helping hand.  In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Jennie Desautels, of Colchester; Brother, Adam Desautels of Hebron; Maternal Grandmother, Jennie Lenkiewicz of Colchester; his uncle, Dave Lenkiewicz of Lebanon; cousins, Jay and Ally Lenkiewicz of Lebanon; his long-time work buddies, Jon Solsky and Kenny Semmelrock; and his cat, “Dusty”, along with many extended family members and friends.  A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 4th at 11am at St. Andrew Church, 128 Norwich Avenue, Colchester, followed by a celebration of life at the Colchester Fish and Game Club, Old Amston Rd. Colchester.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Colchester Fish and Game Club, PO Box 257, Colchester CT 06415.  The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements.  For online condolences, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
