Merle Hollis Thoma, age 80, of Hebron, went home to the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown. Born in Kingston, PA on March 13, 1939, he was a son of the late Harold and Jean (Entrekin) Thoma. Merle was a proud veteran having served with the US Army National Guard after high school. Merle married his beloved wife, Lorraine Taylor on June 28, 1969 in Pennsylvania. Soon after, the couple moved to Hebron, CT where they made their home and raised their family. They were active members of the Colchester Bible Baptist Church, and they shared nearly 50 years of marriage before Lorraine predeceased him on June 9, 2018. Merle had a keen interest in machinery and equipment and he found a great deal of enjoyment tinkering with such things as a hobby. He was a member of the Quinebaug Valley Engineers Association and the Zagray Farm Museum in Colchester. He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his family. He leaves two children and their spouses, Harold and Jessica Thoma of Lebanon, Lucie and Allyn Tarbell of Columbia; six grandchildren, David, Jonathan, Samantha, Jason, Mary, and Lucas; a brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Nancy Thoma of Lexington, KY; and numerous extended family members and friends.
