Michael Thomas Barber, Sr., age 69, of Coventry, beloved husband of Blue (Martin) Barber, passed away at Yale New Haven Hospital on April 21, 2022, after a valiant battle with cancer. Mike was born in Hartford, CT on August 27, 1952. He was a son of the late Leo and Mary (Cherry) Barber. Mike and Blue met in the late 1970’s. They were married on August 8, 1980 and began a life together filled with love, friendship, and adventure. They made their home in Coventry, where they raised their family near Coventry Lake. Mike retired last year after a long and successful career in Aerospace. He began as an engineer with Flanagan Industries in Glastonbury, now known as Hanwha Aerospace, and retired as the sales representative for the engineering department. Mike’s job afforded him many opportunities for travel in the US and abroad, which he enjoyed. He also traveled extensively with Blue. He will be remembered as a great neighbor, helping anyone in need. He was a talented handyman whose ingenuity allowed him to build a beautiful gazebo in his own back yard, and countless other projects over the years. In his spare time, Mike loved playing golf, or puttering around the home and mowing his beloved grass which he took so much pride in. Most importantly, Mike was a hardworking family man, who was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend. His loss will be mourned by many, but most keenly felt by Blue, his adoring wife and best friend of 41 years; his children, Michael Barber, II and his wife, Laureen of Rockville; Scott Barber of Storrs, stepson, Ethan Powell of Florida; a brother, Thomas Barber and his wife, Cheryl of Coventry; his granddaughter, Genavieve; and numerous extended family members and friends. Visitation calling hours will be held on May 26th from 5 – 7 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A graveside service and celebration of Mike’s life will be held on May 27th at 11 am directly at St. Mary Cemetery, 386 Main St. Coventry.
