Patricia D. (Ireland) Lawton Obituary

Patricia D. Lawton “Patty” 77, (1947 - 10/25/2024) of Marlborough, passed away after enduring several serious health issues. Patty was born in Maryland and was the daughter of the late Benson Templeton Ireland and Dorothy Patricia D’Elia Grillo. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother Michael Ireland. Patty was the oldest of five siblings and from a young age she took on a maternal role with her sisters and brothers who she loved dearly.

Patty was an amazing wife, mother, sister and friend with a huge heart. She was a devout catholic and communicant of the Guardian Angles Parish in Colchester.  Patty had a successful career at Connecticut Underwriters and then later retired from  Stone Agency,  In every place she worked, it was natural for her to seek out and become friends with all her co-workers, creating lasting friendships throughout the years.

However, the absolute most important thing to Patty was family. She loved having her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends over the house any time day or night. Whether it was for a holiday event, birthday/anniversary celebration, or for any unexpected pop-in, her door was always open and she loved to welcome everyone in with open arms and a warm embrace. Patty loved being a grandmother and enjoyed seeing all of her grandchildren grow up throughout the years. Patty was so proud of her children and grandchildren and would brag about them with every opportunity. It filled her heart with love and enjoyment having everyone over her house, eating and listening to music on the back deck and watching the kids enjoy the pool every summer.

Besides her love of her family and friends she had a passion for cooking, baking and music. It was imperative you left with a full stomach and leftovers of her delicious meals.  It was so comforting to smell the meals cooking in the oven or on the stove. She loved being in her kitchen and making all types of baked goods and home-made meals for everyone. With her husband Scott, she loved singing, dancing and listening to a variety of music together in their home.

Lastly, Patty was a huge lover of all animals. Patty was very devoted to giving the best life she could to the many dogs and cats she had in her care over the years. She loved them as family members. Patty will forever be remembered as a kind and compassionate soul who loved her family. She was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need and her heart knew no bounds. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Breast Cancer Society and/or the Connecticut Human Society.

She is survived by her husband Scott R. Lawton; her son Joseph Golias and wife Kimberly, her daughter Kelly Boerenko and husband Erik; along with three stepdaughters: Staci Serrao, Heather Lawton and Carrie Cicero and husband Nicholas. Patty is also survived by  siblings David Ireland, Terri Ireland, Kathy and husband Michael Cole. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren Alexis, Ariana, Jordan, Karissa, Kylie, Logan, Marli, Ryder, and Makenna; and numerous other extended family and friends. She will forever be in our hearts.
