Peggy Louise Cleary, of Colchester, passed away on December 10, 2023, at Backus Hospital in Norwich after a sudden illness. She lived 67 years.  Peggy was born on November 25, 1956. She was a daughter of the late James and Virginia (Price) Sparks. Peggy grew up in South Jersey and graduated from High School there. She married her beloved husband, Thomas Cleary on September 11, 1982. The couple settled in Colchester where they made their home and raised their children. Peggy was a former committee member of Boy Scout Troop 72 when her sons were young. She retired after a long and rewarding career as a Home Health Nurse Aid. Peggy was well known for her beautifully hand painted rocks that she lovingly gifted to friends and strangers alike. Peggy, along with her family enjoyed “music jams” with singing and instruments hosted at their home on Wednesday afternoons.  Recently, she joined a Zoom support group called Together in Song that provides human connection and music therapy. Peggy was an avid flower gardener. She made her yard into a beautiful park-like refuge for both people and wildlife to enjoy. A favorite pastime was feeding and watching the flocks of birds who were welcomed to her home and gardens with many different feeders. Most importantly, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother to her beloved family. She will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her husband of 41 years, Tom; her children and their spouses, John (Kathryn) Cleary of Colchester, Dale (Rachel) Cleary of Las Vegas, NV, Ivan (Kelly) Cleary of Riverside, CA; Cheranne Cleary of Manchester: grandchildren, Ashley, Logan, Maggie, Wally; siblings and their spouses, Sharron (Ed) Boyle, James (Sandy) Sparks, Linda (Donny) Dolbow, Nancy (Ed) Bea, Carol Johnson, Vivian (Bud) Martz, Alice (Jim) Stolz, Michael (Wendi) Sparks; and numerous extended family members and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester on Tuesday, December 19th beginning with calling hours from 4 – 5:30 PM, followed by a funeral home memorial service at 5:30 PM. Burial will be private. Donations in Peggy’s memory may be made to honor her by planting flowers in your own back yard, or visiting a shut-in or friend in need, which are things she was so well known to have done for others.
