Peter Bowen Shannon, 73, of Lebanon passed away at his home on September 3, 2021. He was born February 2, 1948 in New London to the late John and Hazel (Bowen) Shannon. Peter met the love of his life Kathleen (Kay) Markey while visiting Lords Point, where her family had a summer cottage, a place which would remain special for them throughout their lives. The couple was married in 1970 and soon thereafter moved to Lebanon to raise their family. Peter spent a long and successful career working as a corporate tax accountant with Travelers Insurance. After his retirement, he would use his tax skills to help his local community, volunteering as treasurer for the Lebanon Kids before/after school program. He also volunteered his time at Jonathan Trumbull Library. Peter enjoyed woodworking, carrying on a family tradition benefitting both friends and family with his creations. Peter enjoyed socializing at the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society in Stonington, where he was recently made a life member. His children will remember Peter as a man of few words, but also as someone who was generous to a fault while caring for his family. Peter will be sadly missed but always lovingly remembered by Kay, his cherished wife of 51 years, his son Matt and wife Roberta Romeo Shannon, Timothy Shannon, and Meghan and husband Kevin Regan, sister Patricia Young, brothers Michael and Jerry Shannon, grandchildren Evan Shannon and Liam and Shannon Regan, brother and sisters in laws, several special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Services will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester on Thursday, September 9th with viewing - calling hours from 12-2pm followed by a graveside service and burial at the New Lebanon Cemetery on Waterman Road in Lebanon.
