Raymundo Bigalbal Obituary

Raymundo Vasquez Bigalbal, fondly known as Remy, passed away on June 14, 2026, at the CT Hospice in Branford after a long and debilitating illness.  He was 91 years old.  Raymundo was born in Timalan, Naic, Cavite, Philippines on March 17, 1935.  He was the son of the late Alfredo Lomat and Emilia Ocampo (Vasquez) Bigalbal.  In 1955, Raymundo joined the US Coast Guard at the age of 20 and proudly served for 4 years. Raymundo married the love of his life, Agnes Elizabeth Reed, fondly known as Betty, on March 28, 1959.  The couple traveled to the Philippines. Less than a year after leaving the Coast Guard, Raymundo enlisted into the US Navy, which he served 18 years.  His service included Navy Career Counselor and Recruiter of which he was particularly proud.  Upon retiring from the US Navy, the couple bought their home and raised their family in Oakdale, CT for the past 50 years. Following his active duty in the Navy, Raymundo worked as a Food Service Supervisor at Greentree Manor SNF while pursuing his next career with the US Postal Service out of New London for an additional 20 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Oakdale.  He was one of the original founders of the American Philippines Club in Groton where Philippine families gather to honor their culture and cuisine. In his free time, Raymundo could usually be found fishing, crabbing or bowling.  Later in his senior years, he was an avid mall walker.  Most importantly, Raymundo will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.  He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his wife of 67 years, Betty; his children and their spouses, Raynesa (David) Farrell, Donna Bigalbal, Raymundo (Cathy) Bigalbal, John (Wendy) Bigalbal, Lisa (TJ) MarcAurele; grandchildren, Melissa, David, Bryan, Heather, Sarah, Raymundo, Alayna, Kara, John, Meagan, Shawn, Derren, Devon, Kailey, and Ashlyn; great grandchildren, Magnolia, Jameson, Adalind, with another expected in September; siblings, Patricinia, Crispina, Virginia, Clarita; and many extended family members in the US and Philippines, and friends.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ryley, and siblings, Gloria and Tomotorgo.  Calling hours will be held at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester on Sunday, June 21st from 1 – 3pm.
