Richard C. Baron Obituary

Richard C. Baron, 82, of Painesville, Ohio passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Richard was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, and grew up in New York City in the Richmond Hill neighborhood of Queens. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in chemistry from the City College of New York and spent his career as a research chemist for Campbell’s Soup, Polaroid, and finally Avery Dennison. He held multiple patents for inventions related to the development of polymers and their use in contact lenses and other applications.

He married Linda Pruitt Baron on September 13, 1966 at Saint Pius V Roman Catholic Church in Jamaica, New York. Together they built a life and family, raising two sons and following Richard’s career as it brought them to Tewksbury, Massachusetts and Alpharetta, Georgia. They settled in Painesville, Ohio in 2001, where they remained until Linda’s passing in 2020.

Richard had a lifelong interest in bird-watching, a hobby he first developed as a child during long summers spent at his paternal grandparents’ bucolic farm in Hebron, Connecticut. He also loved to play chess and was an avid reader, film buff, and classical music fan.

He is survived by his children Christopher and Melan Baron of Quincy, Massachusetts, and Matthew Baron of Atlanta, Georgia, as well as his brother Robert Baron of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Richard was preceded in death by his wife Linda Pruitt Baron and his parents Carl and Elizabeth “Lily” Baron.
