It is with profound sadness that the family of Richard D. Kodym, of Salem, announce his passing on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at home. Born in Norwich, CT, he was the eldest son of the late John and Rose Kodym. Richard grew up in Colchester and was a graduate of Bacon Academy and then went on to the University of Bridgeport where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History. Richard had a gift working with his hands, he was an excellent woodworker and enjoyed making furniture for his friends and family. This skill led him to starting his own company, RKO Construction and Paving as a general contractor. A career that spanned over 30 years until his retirement. In his leisure time he would relax by boating in Niantic and watching sports. Basketball was a passion of his that lasted from his childhood and well into his young adult years when he played in college. He found great joy in watching his son playing basketball in High School and often travelled hours to watch him play in College. He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Omenson and brother Robert Kodym. He will be loved and remembered by his wife Patricia of Salem, his son Jason and daughter in-law Georgia of Brooklyn, NY, several nieces and nephews and numerous other extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Connecticut Humane Society; www.cthumane.org. A service will be held at a later date due to Covid restrictions.
