Rita Theresa Grant, 64, of Salem, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 6, 2021 after a brief illness. Born December 21, 1956 in Putnam, Connecticut; she was the daughter of Bernice Therrien and the late Reynald Gervais. Rita grew up in Plainfield and Moosup, later moving to Norwich where she attended college and met her husband, Tim Grant. The couple married on December 12, 1987. Rita worked as financial manager at Mohegan Sun Casino. She helped open the property as a "day-oner," working there for 20 years before retiring. She will always be remembered as a kind-hearted soul, who was the most generous and compassionate caretaker of both her family, and friends. Those who had the privilege of knowing her would agree that she could best be described as a “mother to all.” She was commonly referred to as a Saint by those close to her. Rita’s gentleness and compassion will be forever missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of her family. She is survived by her husband Tim Grant of Salem, Sons Ryan, Eric and Tony; brothers Harry “Mich” Lawson (Kim Mahoney), Tony (Lisa) Gervais, Michael (Patricia) Gervais, and sister Zoe Lawson; as well as numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to her father, she is predeceased by her son William “Willy” Ridgaway. Care of private funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
