On September 3, 2023, Ronald Wood, 84, of Colchester, passed away into the arms of his Heavenly Father in the presence of his loving family. Born in the heart of the Berkshires on June 25, 1939, he was the son of the late Clinton and Dorothy (Gallant) Wood. Ron lost his dad at a young age and grew into an amazing son caring for his mom and siblings. At the age of 17 he enlisted into the U.S. Navy and developed a love of machinery while working on the sea in the engine room of a tugboat. After the Navy Ron joined Pratt & Whitney and stayed for 51 years running engines before they entered service as a production test operator. He did what he loved and loved what he did. He married the love of his life Lynda Salinsky in October of 1962. While raising their family they built a home in the woods. Ron was always comfortable with a chain saw in his hands and cleared the lot himself before building much of their home all while working many hours at Pratt, proving he didn’t require much sleep. As years past he was able to fulfill his dream of purchasing a corvette and began entering show-n-shine competitions. He was a lifetime member in the Grand Sport Registry which brought him a circle of friendships and unique travel experiences. He leaves his wife Lynda after 61 years of marriage, daughter Sheryl, and son Scott (Tracie). He was blessed with three beautiful grandchildren who brought him so much love, Kaitlyn (Navy First Class Petty Officer Patrick) Haverty, Air Force Technical Sergeant Brian (Lyndsey) Hogan, and Chloe Wood; sister Donna (Jim) Poulton of Pittsfield and brother Jeffery (Ivy) Wood of Long Island. Marrying into the Salinsky family he acquired six brothers-in-law, Brent, Edward (Connie), Gary, Jeffery (Anne), Bill (Kathy) and Stanley. Needless to say, numerous nieces and nephews and their children. Ron was blessed and honored to have special godsons Christopher Wood and Todd Poulton. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Clinton Wood. A memorial mass will be held directly at Guardian Angels Parish, St. Andrew Catholic Church, 128 Norwich Avenue, Colchester, CT on September 16th at 11:00am, followed by a reception at the North Woods Community Clubhouse, 42 Center Court, Colchester, CT.
