Roselyn Plotkin Obituary

Roselyn (Gordon) Plotkin, ”Roz,” 95, of Colchester CT and recently of Sharon MA, beloved widow of Irving Plotkin, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025.

Born March 4, 1929 in Norwich to the late Louis and Bessie (Kessler) Gordon, she was the first of three daughters, older sister to the late Barbara Markowitz (Dave) of Whitestone NY and the late Selma Becker (Martin) of Waterford. She graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1947. On February 11, 1951 she wed Irving Melvin Plotkin at Beth Jacob Synagogue in Norwich. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage before he predeceased her on June 13, 2014.

Soon after their wedding Roz traveled to Richmond VA to be with Irving while he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

In 1952, she and Irving opened Plotkin’s Jewelers in Colchester, serving the community for 69 years. Roz continued to work at Plotkin’s until the day the store closed, on December 24, 2021.

Roselyn joined Congregation Ahavath Achim when she and Irving moved to Colchester in 1952. She was also active in Hadassah serving as chapter President on more than one occasion. Roz was proud to be a charter member of the Colchester Business Association as well as a member of the Friends of the Cragin Memorial Library. Roz enjoyed being involved in the Colchester Lions Club along with Irving where they made several special friends.

Most importantly, Roz was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt, and she will be greatly missed. May her memory be for a blessing.

Roz is survived by her two children, Paul Gordon Plotkin and his fiancée Deborah Henderson of Waterford, and Hillery Plotkin Bauman and her husband Daniel of Stoughton and Hull MA; four grandchildren, Betty Bauman-Field (Corey), Michael Plotkin (Rebecca), Adam Bauman (Arielle), and Cassandra Ranson (Kevin). Roz was also the proud great-grandmother of Rosie, Avery, Lila, and Tobi. Roz will also be missed by her nieces Judy Finkle (Jonathan) and Chana Laskey (Aryeh, z”l) and by her nephew Cary Markowitz (Randi Greenfield Wylie), along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 27 at 12 noon at Congregation Ahavath Achim, 84 Lebanon Ave, Colchester CT. Interment will follow at Ahavath Achim Memorial Park in Colchester followed by a meal of consolation and minyan at Congregation Ahavath Achim.

Shiva will be observed at the home of Hillery and Daniel Bauman: Friday, February 28 (10 am – 2 pm); Saturday, March 1 (7 pm – 9 pm, with maariv at 7:30); Sunday-Tuesday, March 2-4 (10 am – 4 pm and 6 pm – 9 pm, with maariv at 7:30 pm).
