Rosina Ida (Fox) Walden

Rosina Ida (Fox) Walden, “Rose”, of Oakdale, passed away on May 17, 2022, at Backus Hospital in Norwich after a sudden illness.  Born on May 6, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Lenora (Tyler) Fox.  Rose grew up on the Fox Family Farm (established around 1752) with her two sisters Charlotte  Fox Matzul,  Phyllis Fox Politowic, and resided there independently until the time she passed.  As a young girl, Rose contracted Scarlet Fever which left her partially deaf.  A challenge which did not impede her from living out an extraordinary life that spanned over 91 years.  She graduated from Norwich Free Academy and, on November 22, 1952 she married her beloved husband, Clifford Walden. The couple  lived in East Haddam where they raised their three children, and returned to the Fox homestead in the 1980's.  Rose worked for a time in Real Estate, but she mainly took care of bookkeeping for the family business known as Walden and Son Carpenters. Growing up during the “Great Depression”, Rose learned to make the best use of everything, including tearing scraps of wool clothing, which she then crafted into beautiful hook rug designs. Rose loved to keep her home a welcoming place, she drew her circle wide around the kitchen table so no one ever sat alone. She nurtured her family with festive holiday gatherings, wonderful baked goods, vegetables from the family garden and beef cattle grown on the farm.   Rose and Cliff traveled throughout the country with their CT Nutmeg Winnebago Club friends.  She was also a member of the Grange #56 and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She will be remembered fondly as a matriarch with a big heart who was an ever devoted and loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.  Rose will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by her children, son, David Walden, daughter, Lois Walden; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends.  In addition to her husband of 67 years, Clifford and her parents, Rose was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Mellon.  A  memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 11 AM, where Rose will be laid to rest next to her beloved Clippy, in the Fox Family Cemetery located near 711 Route 163 Oakdale, CT 06370.  The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangement.  For online condolences, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com.
