Royce Stanley Huggins of Colchester, passed away on October 2, 2023 at Backus Hospital in Norwich. Royce was 90 years old. He was born in Paducah, Texas on January 3, 1933. Royce was the last surviving of the nine siblings born to the late General Jackson and Eula (Lee) Huggins. Royce grew up in Texas and attended school there until he reached teenage years when he moved to California. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 – 1967. While in active duty, Royce traveled to every continent. Upon completing his tour of active duty, Royce moved to Alaska and worked in the construction trades as a builder and contractor during the pipeline construction boom. He returned to Texas and California for a time and then finally retired in Connecticut to be near to his daughter. Royce was a talented woodworker and he enjoyed being a craftsman in his free time as well. He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his daughters, Sue Kelly of Colchester, Patricia Lamb of Wimberly Texas; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nadeau, Shannon Duchesneau, Vanessa Loftus; great granddaughter, Sophie Nadeau; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents and siblings, he was predeceased by three sons, Michael, Kevin and David Huggins. A graveside funeral service will be held at the State Veteran’s Cemetery on Tuesday, October 10 At 12 PM. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements.
