Ruth Vivian Skinner Tallman, beloved spouse of Walter Tallman (deceased
September of 2015) passed away on March 19, 2022 while residing at
Harrington Court Nursing Home. She was born in Hartford CT on August
23, 1931 and was the youngest of four girls born to Alexander and Beda
Skinner. Her sisters, Ethel, Alice and Marion have all predeceased
her. She graduated in 1949 from Bulkeley High School and went to work
while living at home with her parents. Within two years, she met her
husband while attending a local dance with her girlfriends, and they
married on May 10, 1951 just before he was to leave for the army. Once
he'd completed his tour of duty, they continued to reside in Hartford
until she and Walt purchased their first home on Windham Ave in
Colchester in the fall of 1966 and they relocated with their six
children. She and Walt would have celebrated 65 years of marriage in
May of 2016. Ruth worked at part-time clerical positions at Schuster's
Express and the Ahavath Achim Synagogue in Colchester while her children
were younger, but eventually went to work as a full-time payroll clerk
at Phoenix Mutual Insurance in Hartford, from which she retired. Once
she'd retired she worked as the evening and weekend receptionist at
Harrington Court.
She leaves behind her children, Laureen Tallman, Karen Reynolds and her
two daughters Charlene Reynolds and son Jonathan and Wynet Reynolds,
Glenn Tallman, Kevin Tallman, Rhonda Tallman and sons, Roger Soucy Jr.
and Ryan Soucy, and Matthew Tallman along with his wife, Joanne Saitta
Tallman and children, Tonya, Shelby and Jordan Tallman. She also leaves
her husband's one remaining sister, Ella Jewell of Charlestown, New
Hampshire and her five daughters and their families.
Her hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble and
Wii bowling. She also had a fond affection for hot cocoa and cookies.
Ruth made so many afghans and scarves that she was always donating them
to some deserving hospital or organization as well as giving them to the
school children on her daughter-in-law, Joanne's bus route.
