We are deeply saddened to share that the world lost Shannon Belisle Massey on May 30th, 2024, after an extremely valiant battle with cancer.
Shannon was born February 5th, 1971, to Brenda Pigan and Joseph Belisle. She grew up in Hebron, CT, where she attended RHAM and met her husband, Scott. They were married when Shannon was 23 and went on to have 4 children, J. Austin, Cole Jordan, Alexa Rai and Chase Michael.
Shannon loved being a paraprofessional at Gilead Hill School and enjoyed working with kids of all ages. Even as she grew older, her heart remained young, and she never lost her playful spirit. She was constantly making people laugh and the way she brought color into a room, is something everyone loved about her. But her biggest accomplishments and what made her most happy was her family. Whether it was a holiday at the house or a last-minute adventure, it was not uncommon to see the 6 of them together, laughing, making jokes or taking funny family pictures. Every so often, you could find her on stage, singing with Austin or in the crowd, dancing her heart out, with everyone else. As long as they were together, she was happy. She was selfless, fearless, confident and her positive energy was contagious. The world is truly better because of her and her laugh will never be able to be replaced.
Shannon was predeceased by her mother Brenda Belisle Pigan, her father Joseph E. Belisle and her father-in-law James Massey. Shannon is survived by her husband Scott Massey, her children J. Austin Massey, his wife Janine Massey, Cole Jordan Massey, Alexa Rai Massey and Chase Michael Massey, her stepfather Donald Pigan and her mother-in-law Bianca Massey, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends we call family.
We want to thank Shannon’s friends and coworkers at Gilead Hill School and the town of Hebron for all of their support, as well as her health care team and everyone else that showed up, one way or another, during this unthinkable time. We have been so lucky to have you all in our corner.
Calling hours for Shannon will be held at Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home in Colchester, CT on June 7th, 2024, from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s hospital.
We will listen for your laugh in every joke and your voice in every song. We will keep your smile in our hearts and look for you in every sunset.
