Stanley Dankiw Obituary

Stanley Dankiw, age 87, of Colchester, passed away suddenly on March 20, 2021.  Born in Ukraine on November 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Stephan and Rosalia (Masleuch) Dankiw.  Sponsored by the Zagray Farm and family, at age 15, Stanley emigrated to America, settling in Colchester with his father and four siblings.  At age 18, he volunteered with the US Army and after serving in active duty, he was granted American citizenship.  A hard working man, Stanley quickly became entrenched in the town of Colchester, taking work with Sableski Oil and later working as a tire mechanic for Schuster’s Express Trucking Company for more than 30 years.  He retired several years ago.  Stanley married his beloved late wife, Marion Elizabeth Young in 1956.  With his own hands and ingenuity, Stanley built the home where he and Marion raised their seven children. Marion predeceased Stanley in 2001. Stanley was fortunate enough to marry his second beloved wife, Gloria Ceruti, who also predeceased him in 2007 after sharing a few short years together.  True to his heritage and devoutly faithful, Stanley was very involved with St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Colchester where he attended Mass frequently. In his spare time, Stanley enjoyed woodworking.  He became quite talented at the craft and made furniture and other wood worked crafts for family members and friends.  In later years, Stanley was often seen riding about town on his blue scooter, which he enjoyed even into his 80’s. He will be sadly missed but remembered with love by his children and their spouses:  Rosa (John) Winder of Colchester, Michael Dankiw of Colchester, Andrew Dankiw of Vernon, Stephen (Patty) Dankiw of Lebanon, Stanley Dankiw, Jr. of Newington, Cathy (Joe) Guadagni of Haddam, Daniel (Valleri) Dankiw of Colchester; his stepchildren Sharon, Gail, Carol and Diane; a sister, Mary Zolubak of Chicago, IL; nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Carri, John, Christopher (Samantha), Joseph, Michelle, Kida, Kristyn, JD; five step-grandchildren, Jessica Crystal, Lisa, Angela and Sarah; five great grandchildren, Shawn (Kayla), Rylee, Nicholas, Abigail, Gabriel Jade; nine step-greatgrandchildren, Luis, Yamelette, Crystal, Niomi, Priscilla, Jalen, Tristan and Sonney; and numerous extended family and friends  Calling hours, utilizing face covering and social distancing will be held on Thursday, March 25th from 4 – 7 pm at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester.  The Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, March 26th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Linwood Avenue, Colchester.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rte. 85, Colchester.  Donations in his memory may be made to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church 178 Linwood Ave., Colchester 06415.  For online condolences, please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
