Stefan J. Kupczak, of Colchester, passed away after a difficult struggle with lung disease, at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich on June 16, 2022. He was 75 years old. Born in Mittwald, Germany on May 15, 1947, he was a son of the late Dmytro and Anna (Hyndrak) Kupczak. Stefan grew up in Colchester and graduated from Bacon Academy. After high school, Stefan served in the US Army from 1966 – 1968, during the Vietnam War. After completing his tour of duty, he went to work in retail, eventually retiring as a Big Y grocery store manager in Plainville. He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his daughter, Christine Kupczak Farnsworth of Lebanon; a brother, Peter and his wife Frances Kupczak of Colchester; a sister, Maria and her husband, Clyde Goding of Hebron; a nephew, Kevin Goding and his cousin John Senedzuk and his wife Susan, numerous extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Nicholaus Kupczak and three nieces, Kelly Goding, Jessica and Kathleen Kupczak.
The family would like to extend their sincere thankfulness to the care and comfort given to Stefan at Backus Hospital, especially the Palliative Care department's Ann Fellows, the Hospice department's Snead Kinney, and special thanks to Anah and Ed, nurses on E3. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his honor to the charity of one’s choice.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 21st from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Colchester.
