Stephen Albert Obituary

Stephen Albert, of Colchester, passed away on May 5, 2026, due to a long and debilitating illness. He was 68 years old. Stephen was born in France on September 8, 1957. He was the son of Bert Albert of Citric Heights, CA and the late Marie (Carroll) Albert. As a child, the Albert family moved frequently as a military family would, finally settling in Trumbull, CT. Stephen earned a masters degree from Texas A&M in Urban Planning. He put his knowledge and talent to good use while living in Bozeman Montana and working with the Western Transportation Institute for over 30 years. Some of his more recognized accomplishments include the design for the safe merge onto route 91 from the 84 intersection in Hartford, and the design for bridges over roadways for livestock to move from one pasture to another on the other side of the road. In his free time, Stephen enjoyed anything outdoors, especially bike riding and hiking. He also enjoyed listening to his album collection while appreciating a fine cigar. Additionally, he was a dedicated admirer of the Lord of the Rings series and maintained an extensive collection of related memorabilia. Most importantly, Stephen will be remembered fondly for his kindness, generous nature and wonderful sense of humor. He will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his father, Bert of Citrus Heights; his sister and her family, with whom he made his home in later years, Carol, her husband Shawn Amell, of Colchester; their children and spouses, Craig (Nikki) Amell of Glastonbury, Laura (Bryan) Streeter of W. Warwick, RI, Erinn (Sean) Murdza of Colchester; and many extended family members and friends. Steve and his family would like to thank Elmbrook Village in Bozrah, CT for all their amazing care of Steve. Steve and his family would also like to acknowledge the amazing support he received from Tom Ruderman, Dave and Nancy Bowes, Sally Standley, Eric and Susan Stanfield. Your phone calls and visits made him smile always. Friends forever. A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be announced. In Steves memory, please do something kind for another person. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with care of arrangements. For online condolences or to share a story of Steve please visit www.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com
