Tokio Tsuchihashi Obituary
Tokio Tsuchihashi, of Powhatan, VA, passed away on December 21, 2025. He was 91 years old. Tokio was born in Sapporo, Japan on December 21, 1934, to the late Tokimasa and Hatsue Tsuchihashi.
Tokio attended Gakushuuin University in Tokyo, Japan, worked for the Tokyo Foreign Service, and then moved to the United States to attend Clark University in Worcester, MA. He had a full career working for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
In April 1963, he married Mary Elizabeth Hillemansen at St. Peters Catholic Church in Worcester, and together, they had four children whom they raised in New York, The Netherlands, Texas, and Connecticut.
In his free time, Tokio enjoyed playing Bridge and Hearts, spending time at the YMCA, taking zumba classes, watching UConn basketball, and traveling. He especially liked to take cruises, eat ice cream, and burn wood. Above all, Tokio loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his brother Tsuyoshi Tsuchihashi. Tokio will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth; his children, Elizabeth Mingione of Locust Grove, VA; Michael and Martha Tsuchihashi of Mequon, WI; Margaret and Robert Goodrich of Lebanon, CT; and Carol and Michael Whittlesey of Lawrence, KS; his brother Hideki; his sisters, Yoko, Emiko, and Reiko; his grandchildren, Alicia, Drew, Mia, Clayton, Kristen, Samantha, and Ryan; and numerous extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please have a bowl of ice cream in his memory. Donations may also be made in his memory to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. A memorial service will be held at Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home on January 8. Calling hours will begin at 5:00 p.m., followed by the service at 6:00 p.m.
