Tyler Muszynski Obituary

Tyler D. Muszynski—a loving and devoted son with a kindhearted and generous soul—passed away on September 20, 2024, in Norwich. He was 32.

Born on June 22, 1992, in New London, he was the beloved son of Holly L. Atwell and Todd M. Muszynski. He was a happy and curious young man who embraced life with everything he had. Tyler was incredibly intelligent—even at a young age—and this allowed him to learn new skills with remarkable ease.

As a young man, Tyler was diagnosed with Schizophrenia. Despite his illness, Tyler lived the best life possible. His enduring kindness, sweet demeanor, and beaming smile left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had an exceptional love for animals and a passion for reading. Known for his random acts of kindness, Tyler had a unique ability to connect with anyone he met, bringing out the best in those he loved. He had an incredibly moving sense of creativity and unique thought and loved to share moments of pure joy with his “Gram” and “Grandma,” each of whom he had a very special relationship.

Whether it was enjoying a good book or a big plate of Chinese food, Tyler had many favored interests that made him a unique and beloved personality.  Those fortunate to have known him are left with a legacy of his compassion and joy that will live on in their hearts. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of a gentle, wonderful young man who always saw the best in others.

Remember Tyler and Smile—This is what he would’ve wanted from the bottom of his heart.

Tyler is survived by his loving mother, Holly L. Atwell and stepfather, Kevin Slonski; his father, Todd M. Muszynski and stepmother, Leslie Muszynski; his stepbrother, Stanley Slonski; his “Grandma,” Elaine Muszynski; his uncles, Mike, David, Jay, and Ted; his aunts, Debra, Megan, and Robin; and his cousins, Jared, Nathan, Heather, Rheanna, Mason, and Abigail. He was predeceased by his “Grandpa,” Robert Muszynski, his “Gram,” Brenda Atwell, and his “Gramps,” Frederick Atwell.

Tyler’s family will receive friends from 1-3PM on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, CT 06415. A Celebration of Tyler’s Life will be held at 3PM following the visitation period. Private burial arrangements will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Tyler’s memory may be made to Reliance Health, 40 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360. His family would like to thank the staff and residents of the "Bozrah House" for the caring respect and support that they gave to Tyler; and a special gratitude to Greg, who was a bigger support to Tyler than he probably realizes.

Death is not the end

but the beginning

of a metamorphosis.

For matter is never destroyed,

only transformed and rearranged -

often more perfectly.

Witness how in the moment of the caterpillar’s death

the beauty of the butterfly is born

and released from the prison of the cocoon

it flies free.
