Vasco Richard Cardozo, of Colchester, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born in New Brunswick, NJ, on May 16, 1938, to the late Vasco, Sr. and Mary Cardozo. After finishing school, he went on to build a long and respected career on Wall Street as an accountant, working at W. E. Hutton & Co. and Dean Witter Reynolds for 30 years. He married Mary Barone, and they had three children.
Richard was deeply involved in his faith and was a devout communicant of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Colchester for more than 35 years. He loved his faith and proudly served as a Eucharistic minister. In his spare time, he was an avid fan of many sports but particularly loved the New York Yankees. More than anything, he enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
Richard will be sadly missed but always remembered with love by his son, Richard, and his spouse, Josephine, of Kenilworth, NJ; their children, Michael and Anthony; his daughter-in-law, Lorraine Cardozo; his granddaughter, Anna Buffenmeyer, and her husband, Andrew Buffenmeyer; and numerous extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Camille; his son, John; and his sister, Josephine.
A visitation will be held at the Aurora McCarthy Funeral Home on Saturday, December 13th from 9:00 - 10:30AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Andrew's Catholic Church at 11 AM. Following Mass, a burial will take place at the New St. Andrew Cemetery in Colchester.
