Vincent Brough Obituary

South Wales, NY - Vincent Andrew Brough was surrounded by his loving family when he passed from this world on February 27th.  His life was cut short after cancer spread through him in a rapid progression. He was 63 years old. Vince was born in Stoke-on-Trent in West Staffordshire, England on October 23, 1960.  He was a son of the late John and Jean (Bradbeer) Brough.  Vince emigrated to the states with his family as a young boy and they settled in the West Falls hamlet of the town of Aurora, NY.  He attended school there and was a graduate of East Aurora High School with the class of 1978.  Vincent was a proud veteran.  Soon after school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Hermitage from 1979 – 1983.  While on active duty, Vince earned several awards, medals and ribbons for his honorable service aboard the vessel during the conflict in Lebanon.  His work in the Navy honed a talent for machinery which led to a career as a CNC Machinist in parts production and the plastics molding industry.  On July 25, 1981, he married Gretchen Weeks, the girl next door, and  they spent the following 42 years together enjoying a life filled with love, family and music.  Settling close to where they grew up, the couple raised their two beautiful daughters in Western NY. They later built a home that would accommodate four generations of their family, taking care of each other.  He enjoyed camping with the utility trailer he adapted for use as an RV.  They also loved vacationing at the cottage on Keuka Lake that Vince’s father and second mom, Rita owned.  Vincent was an extremely talented musician and with his music he enjoyed being a performer.  He was the lead singer and guitarist with several bands over the years.  People would go to area taverns, pubs and gathering places to hear him sing, and dance to his music with bands such as Midnight Run, Liquid Courage, Chameleon, Whiplash, Bad Little Doggie, Mudslingers, Old Iron Blues, Krossfire and most recently with Krossbones. Vince’s legacy will not soon be forgotten.  His loss will be mourned by all who knew him, especially by the family with whom he made his home in South Wales: his beloved wife and soul mate Gretchen, his second mother Rita (Horschel) Brough, daughter Heather and her daughter Bailey Ranahan.  He also leaves his daughter Andrea, her husband Mathew Cox and their daughter Andaline, all of Colorado; brother Anthony and his wife Linda (Mayle) Brough of Akron, his niece Amanda (Alex) Ames, nephews Eric Mayle and Matthew Brough; mother-in-law Barbara Weeks; a host of Weeks family members, Horschel family members, Brough and Bradbeer family in England, musician friends, fans, and followers. It was hoped that Vince would be present in body, but now only in spirit for the benefit for his family on Sunday, March 24th from 12 – 6 PM, to be followed by a Celebration of Life with Military Honors at 6:30 PM at the American Legion, 365 Center St. East Aurora, NY.   A portion of the proceeds from the benefit will be used to establish a Music Scholarship in Vincent's name. Vince’s family members are filled with heartfelt gratitude to all the people, including friends, family, work colleagues, and strangers alike who have supported and continue to support him and his family through this very difficult time.  Your generosity will never be forgotten.
