Vito N. Ignazio 83, of Colchester passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 16, 2021. He was born on October 12, 1938, in Windsor Locks CT, son of the late Albert and Palmina (Recchia) Ignazio. Vito was married for 60 years to his beloved wife Carol. They were married at St. Mary’s Church Windsor Locks, CT on July 23, 1960. She predeceased him in February 2021. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Vito was a long-time resident of Colchester. Growing up in Windsor Locks, he worked for the family business, The Ignazio Florist and Greenhouses. After moving to Colchester, Vito worked for TLC Oil company, Stroehmann Bakeries, Lincoln Oil and Forbes Petroleum. He was the founder and operator of his family-owned business The Westchester Firewood Company. Vito was very civic minded and was active in his community. He served in the CT Army National Guard 43rd Military Police. He also served as a Constable for the Town of Colchester and was a 20+ year member of the Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Company. He was a former Captain and helped to organize the annual Christmas Tree and Wreath Sales. Prior to moving to Colchester, Vito was a member of the Windsor Locks Fire Department and played the Bass Drum in the Windsor Locks Fire Department Fife and Drum Corps. Vito was a member of the Belltown Antique Car Club and a past member of the Good Times Motoring Club. He enjoyed going for drives in his 1929 Model A and attending car shows and local parades. In his retirement years, Vito enjoyed traveling, attending NASCAR races to support his son Chris and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Vito was one of the original members of the Dunkin’ Gang and had his own chair reserved. He leaves behind his good friends at Dunkin’.He is survived by two sons Christopher Ignazio and his wife Diane of Colchester and Scott Ignazio of Colchester and his companion Jo-Lynn McKinney of Waterford; three grandchildren Shayne, Cassandra, and Olivia Ignazio of Colchester; daughter in law Stephanie Ignazio of Middletown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife Carol, Vito was predeceased by his sister Rosalie DeMay, his twin brother Roger Ignazio Sr, and brother Albert Ignazio Jr. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff of Middlesex Health Care at Home Hospice for the compassionate care Vito received. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5-7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd, Colchester, CT. A funeral service will take place the following day, Friday October 22, 2021 at 11 AM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home.
