Vivian Horton Obituary

Vivian Lajoie Horton, 103 years of age, a longtime resident of Hebron, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2024. Born on January 23, 1921 in Meriden, CT, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Alma (Munn) Lajoie. Vivian attended Weaver High School and was a 1942 graduate of St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. After graduation she worked for the State of Connecticut as a microbiologist. On September 8, 1945 she married her husband, the late John E. Horton of Hebron, CT. The couple shared 46 years of marriage until he predeceased her on March 6, 1992. Vivian was active in the Hebron community, serving as a member of the Hebron Historical Society and the Hebron Garden Club, and was a communicant at the Church of the Holy Family in Hebron for many years. On a personal level, she took great pride in her flower gardens, and enjoyed many hours of swimming in her pool.

She is survived by her children Gregory Horton and his wife Janet of Oxford, Gary Horton and his wife Cathy of Hebron, and James Horton and his partner Sue Walters of Niantic; grandchildren Lisa, Cheryl, Deborah, Helen and Gail; eleven great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Elizabeth M. Horton; and many other family members and friends.

On Monday, July 8, 2024 Vivian’s family will gather at 10 AM at the Church of the Holy Family, 185 Church St., Hebron, CT., to share memories with family and friends prior to the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery on Route 85 in Hebron. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Douglas Library of Hebron, 22 Main St. Hebron, CT 06248, or to the St. Peter’s Cemetery Improvement Association, 180 Hope Valley Rd., Amston, CT 06231.
