Walter Stebner, 93, of Lebanon, passed away at home on Saturday, September 23, 2023. “Walt” was the son of Daniel and Ida (Zahn) Stebner and brother to Martha and Arthur (Joyce). Walt was a lifelong resident of Lebanon and built his life around the Stebner Farm, breeding and raising Belgian horses and Holsteins. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of farming by mentoring other families and youths in town. Walt had a remarkable knowledge of town and world history and could share detailed stories of events from his many years in Lebanon. He was a voracious reader and had a vast knowledge of geography. He was an enthusiastic gardener and could always be counted on to bake pies for holiday dinners. He could eat more pancakes than any other human. He was generous and kind to his neighbors and beloved town of Lebanon. He donated 16 acres of land to the town for a park in memory of his family. The Stebner family was a pillar in the Lebanon community. Walt was the last surviving member of the Stebner Legacy. Walter’s funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 10 AM directly at the Redeemer Lutheran Church 321 Village Hill Rd, Lebanon, CT 06249. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery on Waterman Rd in Lebanon.
