Wayne Robert Martin, 68 of Amston, passed away suddenly at home with his wife by his side on the morning of Thursday, August 15, 2024. Wayne’s passing comes after a valiant battle with cancer and many other health issues by which he defied the odds time and time again, Wayne is now at peace. Born August 20, 1955 in Willimantic, CT; he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Provost) Martin. Wayne grew up in Coventry, CT achieved the status of Eagle Scout in his youth, and was proud to show off his merit badges and to share stories from his Boy Scout days with his grandchildren. Shortly after graduating from Windham Technical High School, Wayne began his career as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney and would remain there until his retirement in 2020. Wayne married Susan (East) in 1996 and settled in Amston.
Wayne had a passion for computers and took this love to Computer Fairs where he shared his knowledge with other enthusiasts. Wayne was known for his ability to fix anything with a motor, “MacGyver” would be a valid nickname for Wayne who once used a bread tie from the floorboard of his car to make a repair to get the family home. Wayne was known for his stories, whether in line at a store, receiving dialysis, chemotherapy or passing through his home, given the opportunity Wayne would share a story, whether you were interested or not.
Wayne will be forever loved and remembered by his wife Sue, his caretaker who was by his side throughout his medical struggles, his children Alicia Colenzo and spouse Noel, Timothy East and spouse Erika, and Melissa Martin, sister Karen Green and spouse Doug, brothers Lee and Jay Martin; grandchildren Carson, Logan, Carrie, Callen and Ryder; his mother-in-law Catherine East; and numerous other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his brother Mark Martin.
The family would like to thank Hartford Healthcare at Home, with enormous gratitude to Eliana, Julie, and Jennifer; they too were the recipients of countless stories, and always showed patience, compassion, and kindness towards Wayne and his family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday August 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lebanon First Congregational Church, 588 Exeter Rd, Lebanon, CT 06249.
