I am still very saddened by the passing of my good friend Jason. I have served on the Student Advisory Committee to the Board of Regents and worked on a personal basis with Jason for at least the past two years. I considered him not only a friend but a mentor and a life coach. I will remember him forever. My heart has continued to go out to his family and all who knew him for the past few weeks. You all continue to be in my thoughts.

I was very sad to learn about Jason's passing. I enjoyed working with him very recently, on an upcoming event celebrating and advancing student success initiatives at our state's wonderful community colleges. I could tell from our many emails and phone calls that Jason loved these special life-changing institutions, and played a unique role in further strengthening the community college system.

Jason was my RD my first year of college at Chico State. He along with Gina and the staff inspired me to be an RA which ultimately led me down a path to service with students. I am thankful that I knew him and send my condolences to his family.

Much love - Emily

In the past few months I had the wonderful experience of getting to know Jason better as part of our work at CSCU. We have had several hours-long conversations that were some of the best I’ve ever had. He was wise, kind, irreverent, intelligent, inventive, and cared deeply about the mission of serving the students. I wanted so much to spend more time, to have more great talks, to work together on more projects…

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his family for the loss of a very special person.

My heart is broken with the passing of Jason. He and Gina were so happy and enjoyed being parents to Jordan. I am so glad that this years Christmas Greeting was of all three, a precious remembrance. Gina is my cousin and the age of my sons but I always think of her as my Niece. Prayers and Love are being sent your way. Hugs.

Dear Gina, Jordan, and Family,
I worked with Jason in the CSCU System Office. We are so very, very sorry about his passing. It is difficult to comprehend. I keep playing the last conversation I had with him as he left the office for the day on Monday. It was about him eating chocolates from a candy bowl I keep in my office, and I showed him where I keep the "stash" in case he ever needed more...Such a funny and benign conversation. I do know that more than any chocolate treat, your husband/ Daddy's face would LIGHT UP when he spoke of you. You were, are, and I believe will continue to be loved very much by him.

I wish to express my deepest condolences at Jason's passing. I knew Jason through FB. Like Jason, the Boston Marathon bombing deeply affected me...so much so that in 2015, I wrote a song honoring the victims. It was through this song that we connected on FB and became friends. I quickly picked up on his enthusiasm for life and his amazing energy. I remember when Jason asked FB friends to guess which 4 marathons he planned to run, I was the one who posted the correct answer.

He inspired me greatly and I was particularly inspired by his goal to run marathons across the world in different countries. And even today, on Jan 13, it was Jason who inspired me to put together the video I created for the song, Kingdoms. I am truly sorry for your loss and will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Love and blesssings,
Victor

I had the honor of meeting Mr. Ebbeling on at least three (3) occasions. He was quite articulate, confident, humorous, and approachable. He seemed to have a warmth and joy that I detected even when answering HARD questions. I LIKED Jason Ebbeling and I am praying that Our Lord Jesus Christ will guide, comfort, and bless his family, friends, and loved ones. God Bless You!

Dear Gina and Jordan and the members of Jason's family,
I was shocked to learn the news of Jason's passing. I had the good fortune to hire him as the Vice President for Student Affairs. we had a wonderful working relationship. He was a bright, generous, caring person and the consummate professional. I was pleased for him that he was hired by the CSCU System where his professional knowledge and experience as a student affairs professional could be shared with 17 institutions. I am going to miss working with him and seeing him. I will always remember his laughter, his delightful sense of humor, the twinkle in his eye along with his warm and welcoming smile!

We are so sorry to hear of Jason's passing. Although we did not know Jason on a personal level, when he was Dean of Students and our daughter was just beginning her Freshman year at Mitchell College, he made all of us "nervous" parents feel a lot more comfortable letting our kids "go", and even making us laugh at ourselves for wanting to linger around campus and hovering over our kids instead of just saying good-bye and leave. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jason's precious family and may you feel God's loving and tender Presence holding you tightly.

There are no words for the pain you and so many are feeling at this time. There will be an emptiness in your lives where once was Jason's smile, his love and laughter. Nothing can fill this emptiness but the memory of his smile, his laughter, knowing of the help and encouragement he gave to others, and the abundant love he gave unselfishly to so many. Open yourself to others and receive the love and support they are pouring out on you and your family.

I've known Jason practically from the moment he joined the CSCU staff at the system office. From the day I met him I knew he would be the go-to person we had needed for so long--someone who was hard-working, dependable, accommodating, lots of fun to work with, and understood higher education and the community colleges. Jason and I were also connected by our Oregon experiences which we enjoyed talking about. I will miss Jason very much and I wish all those who love him my heartfelt sympathy.

Over the past six months, I have been honored to work with Jason Ebbeling who was deeply, passionately and wholly committed to advancing student success and learning more about innovations in the learning environment. He was amazing to work with! I have been inspired and driven by those I serve alongside. Jason was one of those individuals. During the course of many days, I enjoyed hearing stories about his beautiful daughter, Jordan. His impact will not be forgotten.

My heart goes out to you. There are no mystical words to bring an end to your pain. Loss of a spouse can be the loss of a best friend, a marriage, and an important part of our identity.

Grief takes time, and grief is work. Much of this is emotional work. Countless people put off their grief. Remember that one of the most important ways to care for those who depend on you is to take good care of yourself. If you are attending to your own needs in healthy way, you will be much more capable of meeting their needs as well. My thought here is for you to go the extra mile for yourself and treat yourself as the important person you are.

I hope you find these words reassuring in the days and weeks to come.

May God bring you comfort and peace during this difficult time. Through faith, the hope that you have for this pain to ease will come to pass.

~A Co-worker

I knew Jason through our mutual friend Patti Parlette. She suspected I'd want to support him as a member of Team MR8. And I did. We'd have online conversations and I followed his running exploits. In April 2016, I finally got to see Jason run Boston. I only saw him briefly, as he streaked past the firehouse inNewton. (Oddly enough, that moment is captured in one of the photos on this page.) He has been and always will be such an inspiration to me. Please accept my deepest condolences on your incalculable loss.
